County route numbers are not posted in Onondaga County, with the exception of CR 91, which is posted, using the shield shown above, as CR 57 after the state highway it replaced. Many of the routes consist of various sections of named roads strung together. Some county routes include several different road segments, usually intersecting, rather than a single continuous segment. Also, certain longer named roads may carry several different numbers along their length.

Onondaga County's highway network is one of the most extensive in the State. In most cases, the routes are through highways covering fairly long distances, although certain Towns contain much higher proportions of county highways. In particular, Towns such as Onondaga and Marcellus contain relatively extensive county road systems, with more than half of the primary connecting roads maintained by the County.

In some cases, sources differ on exact road names. Major discrepancies of this type are shown in [brackets]. Differences in suffixes (Road, Street etc.) are not generally noted.

Italicized routes are obsolete designations. In the "Towns" column, Villages and CITIES are also listed; no county roads wholly enter the City of Syracuse or the Onondaga Indian Reservation.
