COUNTY ROADS

Chemung County roads are posted routes. At certain county highway junctions, the route shield (shown above) and the road name are placed together on a green guide sign. There is no apparent numbering pattern. County routes usually consist of a single named road, but several combine segments of two or more named roads.

Chemung County highways consist mostly of primary local thoroughfares, a number of which are former state highways. However, some are shorter local roads and streets, particularly clustered in congested areas of Big Flats and Horseheads.
